Joe Purdy & Peter Mulvey - Sometime ago at the Tractor

Joe is playing tonight (4/23/2017) at the Tractor Tavern in Seattle

Just can't seem to get it right today is a remarkable song that seems so appropriate for sad afternoons in the cloudy Northwest

Carl Newman of the New Pornographers Talks about Defying Expectations and Whiteout Conditions

by Sean Nelson

Though after seven albums and 17 years, they are indisputably veterans, the commercial and cultural landscape into which the band's new LP, Whiteout Conditions, has emerged is difficult to predict. The record continues in the vein of 2014's vital and wonderful Brill Bruisers, with synths and dance music textures rising up to bolster the ebullient power pop that has always been Newman's métier.

John Cale at Showbox, Seattle 2012

John Cale

A word: I have never had a "press pass" - some venues allow larger cameras with detachable lenses, other are like camera Nazis. This is one where I have to use small Sony camera- good but limited. Concert light is very difficult and tricky at best but a real challenge at times...

"John Cale has been playing for over thirty years, and as a seminal member of the Velvet Underground and a striking solo artist since the 70s, there is an incredible amount of material he can pull from — it was really hard to know what to expect. He sounds good. Cale’s voice has gotten better, more grave and powerful with age, and is even better live than it sounds on his latest effort Shifty Adventures in Nookie Wood (out on Double Six)." KEXP Review.

In February 2011 Cale signed a record deal with Domino Records subsidiary Double Six and in in September 2011 released the EP Extra Playful.

Cale co-founded the Velvets with Lou Reed and guitarist Sterling Morrison in the mid-'60s. John met Lou when the latter was a struggling songwriter for the rock & roll exploitation label Pickwick Records. What Cale and Reed shared was an ambition to bring the sensibilities of the avant-garde to rock music. Cale left the band in September 1968, due in part to creative disagreements with Reed.
